Introduction

Are you looking to combine your passion for nature with your land management and communication
skills? If so this is the perfect role for you! Set in the North West Highlands, RSPB Corrimony
reserve is part of the iconic Glen Affric landscape. We are looking for a site manager to be
based in the local community and manage our nature reserve. We need to assist the site to
recover from the wildfire that swept across it last year by working with local communities,
graziers, deer managers and other charities to replace trees that were lost across the 1,700 ha
site.

What’s the role about?

The reserve covers 1,700 ha of woodland, bog, moorland and freshwater loch. We have significant
populations of black grouse, crested tit, Scottish crossbill and many other species that we
manage the reserve for.

The role is responsible for delivering all of management across the site. This will be done
directly, working with local farmers, deer managers, foresters, government bodies and other
conservation charities. You’ll often be leading projects and working on your own, so you will
need to be enthusiastic, have loads of initiative, be diplomatic and able to communicate your
passion for nature to others.

You will be part of RSPB’s South Highland team and the role is home based, with a strong
preference for being part of the local community.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Ecological requirements of key species (black grouse, red deer, roe deer, upland birds)
  • Project management.
  • Land management.
  • Contract management.
  • Local factors (environmental, ecological, cultural).
  • Relevant site-specific specialist knowledge (e.g. grazing, upland management, Highland
    estate management).
  • Interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Budget management.
  • Diplomacy.
  • Site or land management experience.

Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Knowledge of upland agricultural and forestry systems.

This is a Permanent, full-time role for 37.5 hours per week.

We are looking to conduct interviews for this position from 6th May. For
further information please contact [email protected].

As part of this application process you will be asked to complete an application form including
evidence on how you meet the skills, knowledge, and experience listed above.
