The Vacancy

North Lincolnshire is a rural area with picturesque villages and within easy reach of the North
East, Yorkshire and the East Midlands. The motorway and rail network enables easy access to
many major cities. North Lincolnshire is known for our masses of green space, good and
outstanding schools and excellent housing offer.

There is an exciting opportunity to join the recently established Strategic Flood Risk team at
North Lincolnshire Council leading the delivery of local flood risk management in North
Lincolnshire, working with partners to reduce the risk of flooding, and improve the water
environment locally. You will help to assess flood risk in the area, to investigate incidents
of flooding and to deliver projects that help to reduce flood risk.

The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience of drainage and surface water
management, particularly in a planning or an engineering context. You must have confidence in
dealing with the public, have the ability to communicate complex technical matters clearly and
collaboratively work with internal and external partners. As part of the role, it will be
essential to build effective relationships with local councillors, town and parish councils,
developers, the Environment Agency, and water companies, amongst others, to support the
delivery of policy, strategy and major change processes.

What will you be doing?

  • Deliver our strategic plans to provide flood risk management to North Lincolnshire as a
    whole.
  • Provide support to the community in respect of flood and water related matters, responding
to councillor and customer queries on such matters.
  • Provide support and technical advice to the local planning authority as part of their work
in validating, assessing and determining planning applications, pre-application queries,
planning enforcement and defending decisions at appeal.
  • Provide support to other parts of the Council in order to reduce and where possible prevent
    flooding events.
  • Provide technical advice in respect of other council work as far as drainage and flooding
    is concerned.
  • Apply for related grants in support of work to prevent and reduce flooding and sustainable
    urban drainage.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders including other departments within the council, our
neighbouring councils, water companies and the Environment Agency to investigate flooding and
    take enforcement action.
  • Work with key stakeholders to create a safer place for the residents and visitors to North
Lincolnshire, whilst achieving the authority aspiration of achieving Carbon Net Zero by 2030.

Joining our progressive and welcoming team will bring a range of benefits, including:

  • A competitive salary
  • A comprehensive induction
  • Generous annual leave entitlement
  • Salary sacrifice scheme
  • Excellent CPD opportunities
  • Local Government Pension scheme.
  • Agile working arrangements (we will consider requests for permanent homeworking from
applicants who reside in other parts of the country).
