Synthesis and characterisation of biobased materials

Job title:

Synthesis and characterisation of biobased materials

Company:

Job description

Offer DescriptionLignocellulose is the most abundant source of biomass and therefore highly interesting for the production of biobased chemicals in the upcoming (bio)circular economy. In this regard, CSCE pioneered in the developed of the Reductive Catalytic Fractionation (RCF) technology. This technology converts pure wood into two valuable fractions: a cellulosic pulp and a lignin oil, which can be used to synthesize platform chemicals, additives or polymer building blocks. In a next step, these valuable products should be, ultimately, converted into biobased materials (e.g. thermoplasts, thermosets, vitrimers, …). In this regard, we are looking for a PD polymer expert who would like to develop and characterize novel biobased materials and/or additives (e.g. plasticizers or flame retardants). Going from wood to biobased materials, this research is of multidisplinary nature. Therefore, you will have a close collaboration with your team partners, translating chemical variations into physical properties, with the ultimate goal to gain more insights and find the optimal material composition. While our lab is highly equipped for the synthesis of biomaterials, we frequently need to collaborate with internal and external partners to extend our portfolio of material characterizing instruments. This will give you the opportunity to further extend your network. Noteworthy, this postdoc project will support multiple running and upcoming research projects, truly valorizing the research at CSCE.Where to apply WebsiteRequirementsResearch Field Chemistry Education Level PhD or equivalentLanguages ENGLISH Level ExcellentAdditional InformationBenefits
