Tax Managing Associate/Head of TaxDepartment: CorporateEmployment Type: PermanentLocation: IrelandDescriptionPlease note: The role title will be Managing Associate for applicants who are qualified lawyers or Head of Tax for applicants who are Chartered Tax AdvisersOgier is seeking a dynamic Managing Associate or Head of Tax to join our expanding Financial Services Tax team.The successful candidate will assist the tax partner in delivering timely and commercial tax advice to Irish and international clients, manage projects, mentor junior team members, conduct technical research, and focus on business development. You will also manage the teams budget, including issuing fees and meeting collection targets. Specialist tax knowledge in financial services and membership in the Institute of Taxation in Ireland are required.   • Serve as the primary point-of-contact for clients, proactively managing their expectations and needs
  • Assist tax partner with the successful, timely, and commercial delivery of tax advice to Irish and international clients
  • Manage a portfolio of clients of varying sizes across different industries, ensuring tailored tax services
  • Conduct and support the team with tax technical research necessary for client engagements and internal/external thought leadership.
  • Oversee project management for client assignments, ensuring service delivery aligns with client expectations
  • Focus on business development activities to grow the client/sector base of the team
  • Coordinate and allocate staff resources effectively to meet project needs
  • Mentor and develop junior team members, participating in their coaching, mentoring, and appraisal
  • Support the management of the department’s financial performance, including fee agreements, billing, cash collections, and monitoring WIP recoverability
  • Participate in the design and delivery of technical training programs
  • Develop strong working relationships with managers and other team members
  • Actively collaborate with peers across different teams and departments
  • Serve as the main point of contact for a range of clients, ensuring their needs are met with excellence
  • Develop a solid understanding of the firm’s core values and how they align with departmental objectives, contributing to achieving firm-wide goals
  • Share knowledge and experience with others, including providing on-the-job training to junior team members
  • Assist with the preparation of client presentations, including board reports and tender/proposal documents

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Either CTA qualified or a qualified lawyer, with a strong academic record
  • Excellent knowledge of corporate tax, relevant legislation, and case law
  • A minimum of 7-8 years in a professional tax environment, with some Big 4 and/or legal practice experience being ideal
  • Strong understanding of commercial and market dynamics
  • Proven experience in delivering high-quality client service across a diverse portfolio of businesses/clients
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a team and build strong working relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Ability to identify and develop new products or services for existing and potential clients
