OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The World Health Organization’s Academy (‘The Academy’) is a new state-of-the-art learning institution that aims to revolutionize lifelong learning for health impact and reach million learners around the world. Based in Lyon, France, the Academy Campus will offer a wide range of learning modalities (on-line, face-to-face and blended); digital, in-person learning via the hub in Lyon or through the campus network, as well as portable learning laboratories’ designed for contexts where participants cannot travel or access the digital learning platform. The Academy is an integral part of the WHO under the management authority of the Director-General. The overall goal of the Academy is to advance the learning and human development component of WHO’s General Programme of Work (GPW) and health sustainable development goals. More specifically the Academy will: enhance the competencies of millions of people through cutting-edge digital learning and hybrid learning, including leaders, practitioners, catalysts and lay people. The WHO Academy will deliver advanced digital and in-person learning to health policy practitioners, health workers and WHO workforce. The Academy campus will be officially launched in Autumn 2024 as a global initiative combining the latest technologies in digital and remote learning with advancements in adult learning science to offer innovative, personalized and multilingual learning that meets priority needs.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the guidance of the Team Lead (Learning Delivery and Impact), the incumbent is assigned all or part of the following responsibilities which are performed according to needs:

  1. Conceptualize the design of innovative training courses. This involves identifying the key learning objectives, developing engaging and informative training materials in collaboration with the learning design team and/or external partners.
  2. Collaborate closely with subject matter experts to design and curate training programs to be administered on-site in the Academy Campus or remote in collaboration with partners.
  3. Plan and execute training events, workshops, webinars, and seminars. This involves managing logistics, scheduling, and technical aspects of the training programs to ensure a seamless and productive learning experience for participants.
  4. Act as the main point of contact for outreach to healthcare professionals, institutions, and stakeholders. Develop and implement outreach strategies to promote the WHO Academy’s training opportunities, ensuring they reach a wide and diverse audience through online, face-to-face, and blended learning methods.
  5. Implement strategies to actively engage and motivate training participants, and actively participate in the testing process and recognition of learning achievements for the courses and utilize quality assurance measures to uphold a high standard of training delivery.
  6. Continuously assess the effectiveness and impact of training programmes through surveys, feedback analysis, and performance metrics. Collaborate with the Learning Design team for the adaptation of learning activities.
  7. Establish and maintain partnerships with relevant organizations, institutions, and individuals to expand the reach and influence of the WHO Academy’s training initiatives. Collaborate with external stakeholders to promote training and knowledge sharing in the field of global health.
  8. Maintain comprehensive records of training activities, participant lists, and feedback. Generate reports on the performance and impact of training initiatives to inform decision-making and showcase the Academy’s achievements.
  9. Coordinate with WHO technical teams the hosting of WHO capacity building activities on campus in Lyon.
  10. Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: A first level university degree in education, social sciences, health sciences or other related field relevant to the position.
Desirable: An advanced level university degree in one of the above-mentioned fields.

Experience

Essential:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in organizing, managing and implementing training programmes and coordinating outreach activities.
  • Relevant experience in the health sector.

Desirable:

  • Experience working within the UN or other international organizations or at international level.
  • Experience in developing capacity-building programmes for multicultural audiences.

Skills

  • Excellent planning skills, adult teaching skills, use of technology for training.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to network and engage learners.
  • Computer literacy with in-depth knowledge and skills in the use of computer and informatics technologies in the field of e- and/or distance learning, as well as of multimedia authoring tools and/or web development languages.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 64,121 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 3014 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
