JOB PURPOSE

Sitting within the Evidence Lab in the Crisis Response Program this position will contribute to Amnesty International’s research function by ensuring Amnesty’s ability to effectively use and visualise open-source evidence in its research. The position will collaborate with Amnesty regional offices and other research teams to combine testimony, geo-spatial, open and closed source information and state of the art visualisations in the course of Amnesty’s fact-finding.

This job requires documentation and research of breaking crisis and grave human rights violations, which involves exposure to violent and graphic digital content.

Please note this is 2 years fixed term contract with an end date of December 2025

ABOUT YOU

We are recruiting a candidate who has experience working with graphic content and demonstrated strategies to mitigate the risks. You will have experience in open-source investigations and a portfolio of projects showcasing visual investigations techniques in a human rights environment.

The candidate must have excellent skills in information design such as layout, typography, colour and interaction design. Finally, the candidate must be fluent in English through writing and speaking.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Use visual investigative techniques such as 2D animations, 3D modelling, geo-spatial analysis, complex motion graphics and/or others to reveal new insights in human rights investigations.
  • Work with researchers and campaigners across Amnesty to develop research plans and explore innovative strategies for incorporating open source intelligence into research outputs.
  • Respond to requests for video collaboration from across the Amnesty movement, including from regional offices, national offices and sections.
  • Create high-end graphics to illustrate digital evidence in Amnesty outputs (both in reaction to breaking crises and planned projects).

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Proficiency in open source investigations techniques including discovery, verification and preservation.
  • At least one or two visual investigative specialties that might include 2D animations, 3D modelling, geo-spatial analysis, complex motion graphics.
  • Proficiency in Adobe suite such as Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere or After Effects, or comparable tools.
  • Experience working with graphic content and demonstrated strategies to mitigate the risk of vicarious trauma.
  • The successful will be fluent in Spanish through written and verbal communication.
