The National Trust are working in partnership with Yorkshire Water (“The Project Team”), along
with other key stakeholders to deliver an exciting landscape scale project across the South
Pennines: Landscapes for Water. The project includes woodland planting, peatland restoration
and Natural Flood Management (NFM) interventions with the overall aim to help make our uplands
healthy and resilient for climate, nature and PEOPLE.

We are looking for a Senior Community and Volunteering Officer to join the Landscapes for Water
Team. We are looking for an ambitious and organised individual who can work with the Project
Team to develop and promote the people element of the project – including volunteering and
community opportunities such as tree planting, nature and archaeology talks and walks, wildlife
monitoring.

Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week, will include weekends and bank holidays
Salary: £24,000pa.
Contract: Fixed term contract, potentially could be extended

What it’s like to work here

The Landscapes for Water Project is contributing to making the South Pennines a healthy
landscape that is resilient to the effects of climate change and an enjoyable place for people
to live, work and explore. The Project is being delivered by the National Trust and Yorkshire
Water and is supported by several stakeholder organisations. You’ll work mostly on the
Landscapes for Water Project but will support 1.5 days per week on the administrative element
of supporting volunteers across the West Yorkshire Group

You’ll work closely with the Project Team and stakeholders, as well supporting the Senior
Community and Volunteering Officer.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll contribute creatively to community and volunteering ideas for the Landscapes for Water
project.

You’ll work closely with the Project Team, Ranger Teams and Partners to deliver targeted
community engagement/involvement and volunteering opportunities such as tree planting sessions,
school educational visits and heritage walks. You’ll work with people to explore ideas,
maintain existing relationships and build new relationships with local and wider communities. 

You’ll be a strong advocate for the Project, networking with local communities and
organisations and encouraging new audiences to engage and take part with the project and its
opportunities.

Who we’re looking for

  • Understanding of good practice in community engagement and involvement, broader
    participation and partnership working.
  • Track record of embedding engagement and participatory ways of working
  • Ability to engage and involve local, wider and/or systematically excluded communities
  • Experience of developing delivery partnerships with community groups and stakeholders
  • Commitment to landscape-scale nature restoration
  • Excellent organisational, administrative, planning and communication skills.
