The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Rostock invites applications for aW3-Professorship in Marine Ecologyat the Institute for Biosciences. The position should be fil ed by October 1st, 2027 (within budget considerations).The Institute of Biosciences at the University of Rostock addresses organismal and molecular questions across the
entire breadth of the biosciences. The professorship advertised here wil focus on marine synecology (e.g. food
webs, energy/material flows, dynamics and resilience of marine ecosystems). A connection to future research on
the Baltic Sea (brackish water, coastal regions) is desired. The biological research station in Zingst can be
integrated for this purpose. Additionally, collaboration with the Institute’s research initiatives and a wil ingness for
interdisciplinary scientific work, especially within the Department of “Maritime Systems” of the Interdisciplinary
Faculty of the University and with the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Re-search Warnemünde, is expected.
The professorship is expected to cover the full breadth of ecology in courses for the Bache-lor’s program in
Biosciences and the Bachelor’s program in Biology Teaching. The professor-ship should make a substantial
contribution to teaching in the Master’s program in Marine Bi-ology. Supportive involvement in teaching related to
nature and species conservation is also desired. The language of instruction is German. For up to two years,
teaching can be con-ducted in English; within this period, sufficient proficiency in German must be demonstrably
acquired to teach in German.
A qualified doctoral degree, several years of independent research activities in the field of marine synecology,
ideally including international experience, a habilitation or habilitation-equivalent qualifications, as well as the
wil ingness and documented ability to acquire third-party funding, are required, as is the wil ingness to engage in

(LHG M-V). According to this, appointment requires a completed university degree, a doctorate, teaching
experience (§ 58 Paragraph (1) LHG M-V), and additional academic achievements, which must generally be
demonstrated through a junior professorship or a habilitation; otherwise, equivalent academic achievements (§ 58
(2) LHG M-V) are required for employment.The professorship is to be fil ed according to § 61 LHG M-V as a position with civil servant status for life, or, if
applicable, for 5 years. It is also possible to fil the position as a regular state employee.Special abilities and achievements in teaching as well as in the organization of science and academic self-
administration are taken into account. For this purpose, the results in teaching, the ideas for future teaching
including the didactic design of courses are to be presented and the experience in scientific management is to be
