Dumfries & Galloway Woodlands

vacanciesin.eu

Dumfries & Galloway Woodlands is a new initiative with ambitious goals. We want to
provide a local and tangible response to the biodiversity and climate crises, supporting trees,
habitats and the people that depend upon then.

Trees are a vital part of what we do and we are now recruiting for a Woodland ACTION
Officer to inspire and support broadleaf and native woodland creation across the
region.

We need someone with experience of, and love for, trees to really help us make a difference!

Headline objectives of the Post:

  • Create and support a pipeline of native woodland creation proposals across the region,
drawing upon national and regional funding opportunities
  • Provide advice to landowners and community groups for existing and new woodland sites
  • To make sure Dumfries & Galloway seizes every opportunity to provide a response to the
    Climate & Biodiversity Crises.

Dumfries & Galloway Woodlands Manager, McNabb Laurie, said:

“We are already making progress on a number of fronts. The appetite across the region for
native woodland creation is awesome – whether from shelter belts on farms and local schemes of
a few trees, through to bigger landscape scale ecological restoration ambitions. We need
someone who can do everything from getting their hands dirty planting trees, through to
navigating the sometimes complex woodland creation grant options. If you have a boundless
enthusiasm for native trees and the benefits they can bring to all sectors across our region,
please do consider applying”

This role is funded thanks to support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, with partnership
support also from The Woodland Trust, Borders Forest Trust and Dumfries & Galloway
Council’s Environment Team – using funds from the Nature Restoration Fund.
