Team Purpose

The DANIDA Strategic Partnership Initiative for Ghana and West Africa Project Team sits within the Accountable Governance Programme and straddles the Just Economy and Gender Justice and wider Programme Influencing Strategy and Impact Team, which aims to realise the vision of making Ghana’s governance system more democratic, inclusive and accountable by building people’s movements to demand and implement change; for constructive engagement of law makers, amplify their needs and demands through the media (old and new) and engage in dialogue at local, national, regional and global levels. People power backed by evidence-based analysis to tackle corruption and waste, increase budget allocation to address poverty and inequalities, and strengthen the democratic process and enable human rights to be fulfilled, including the right to essential services (education). It will also contribute to providing women and girls with equal rights and opportunities by applying a feminist lens to understanding how economic policy, social policy and political power structures disadvantage and abuse women (and girls), as well as access to public services and participation in wealth creation in the private sector.

The team under the Project Management Unit (PMU) will coordinate and provide strategic leadership for the implementation of the project. The Project Management Unit (PMU) will be responsible for quality implementation and coordination among consortium partners in Ghana and West Africa.

The Role

To lead the youth, education, and gender efforts of the DANIDA Strategic Partnership Initiative for Ghana and West Africa project, as part of the Oxfam in Ghana’s Accountable Governance team, making sure the different strands of the project plans, studies, analysis, reports and documentation are youth-friendly, gender-just and socially inclusive. S/he will spearhead the various youth and gender transformative education related studies, analysis, and audits in partnership with partners to provide relevant gender and social inclusion evidence for planning and advocacy on the project. The position holder will ensure the integration and implementation of Oxfam’s feminist principles as well as Youth Engagement Plan of Oxfam International throughout the project lifespan. The position holder will also provide capacity building support on youth engagement, gender justice and social inclusion to partners and consultants on different project activities, studies, and research.

It will be essential for the role to ensure that all Oxfam policies and procedures with respect to Programme quality and partnerships and other relevant policies and procedures are in place, implemented and adhered to. Represent Oxfam at internal and external events and meetings as appropriate.

The person (applicants must be citizens of Ghana or have legal status to work in Ghana)

We are looking for a dynamic and committed individual with the following:

  • A minimum of four years relevant work experience in a similar position specifically focused on youth development, gender equality in education, mainstreaming, equity and general women’s rights
  • University degree in Development Studies, Social Sciences or in any relevant field
  • Demonstrated experience in advocacy and influencing
  • Solid understanding of the context of youth, gender, education laws and policies in Ghana
  • Strong knowledge of women’s rights, gender and human rights, social inclusion and women economic empowerment
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and working skills in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment
  • Ability to work with several stakeholders, especially young people and youth-led organisations
  • Have a strong interpersonal influence with skills and work experience in relationship building, in an international organization.
  • Fluency in oral and written English
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and Power Point).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to motivate, influence and negotiate.
  • Availability to travel within Ghana to Programme sites sometimes including on weekends
  • Experience in risks assessments and compliance with laws in an international NGO context.
  • Commitment to Oxfam’s mission and values, including the promotion of equality between women and men.

Desirable:

  • Experience with delivering gender and youth related capacity building interventions
  • Knowledge and experience with youth, education and gender approaches and tools
  • Strong learning process, facilitating skills, research and interview skills, and knowledge management
  • Commitment to equal opportunity, gender equality and the principles of diversity.
  • Experience with youth partnership development and management.
  • Demonstrate creativity and innovative mindset
  • Working proficiency in Ghanaian languages is highly desirable.
