TILT invites applications from outstanding and experienced legal scholars with a background in Dutch and European Public/Administrative law and technology regulation, who are well-versed and passionate to tackle the new and thorny regulatory issues in the energy domain with a focus on the Dutch legal landscape.Technology and data can drive and accelerate sustainability goals. To make this “twin transition” a success, a plethora of legal and regulatory challenges must be addressed, ranging from the relationship between the state and citizens in facilitating the energy transition, new rules for energy sharing among businesses and citizens in smart energy hubs, to the implementation of practical tools in legislative processes, like designing “green & digital” regulatory impact assessments or regulatory eco-systems that set high green standards as well as allow for digital innovation. The selected candidate is expected to connect the legal regimes of administrative law and technology regulation through a focus on energy and related climate issues.Job Description
The position involves both research and teaching. On the research side, there is the opportunity to collaborate and take the lead on existing, interdisciplinary projects with public and private stakeholders in Tilburg University’s Academic Collaborative Center for Climate & Energy and initiate new projects and research lines strengthening the Institute’s vision and Research Program Regulating Socio-technical Change. In addition, you will also be the project lead and/or contribute to research on commissioned projects, write tenders with a view to acquiring new research projects, and conduct research for various studies.
TILT offers a top-notch LLM in Law & Technology and contributes to several other Master’s and bachelor’s programs. The department is also very active in developing initiatives for professional learning. In addition to contributing to these teaching activities, you also engage in diligent thesis supervision on both the Bachelor and Master level, and you are an open, supportive, and sensitive PhD supervisor. The intended ratio between teaching and research is roughly 40%-50%, with the remaining 10% for administrative and managerial duties.Working at TILT

- Have a PhD in Law;
- Have an in-depth understanding of Dutch and EU public/administrative law and technology regulation, which is reflected in your academic and policy publications.
- Have sufficient knowledge on the technological developments in your field to communicate effectively with tech experts and develop original legal and regulatory work that can guide real-life technological practices.
- Preferably, have a track-record in (or enthusiasm and concrete ideas to) developing and executing research and education activities in the energy domain with a focus on the Dutch legal landscape and digital technology.
- Have publications commensurate with the stage of your career, indicative of the ability to publish in leading legal academic journals in Dutch and English;
- Have a track-record of successful involvement in PhD (co-)supervision;
- Be willing to apply for external research funding and participate or take the lead in applications for projects, at the national and European level (existing experience will be considered as an advantage);
- Have a University Teaching Qualification (in Dutch: BKO) or a similar certificate;
- Be a collaborator with excellent communication skills;
- Have experience working in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment (affinity and experience should be evident from the candidate’s education or past performance in teaching, research or publications);
- Have experience in fulfilling leadership roles within the organization;
- An excellent command of both written and spoken Dutch and English (both C1 level);
- Be committed to being an active member of our team and the department, and to integrate into the environment provided by the department and the Law School;

- A position based on 0,8 – 1.0 fte (32 – 40 hours per week).
- A salary of minimum €6.286 and maximum €7.651 gross per month for full-time employment, based on UFO profile Associate Professor 2 and salary scale 13. Tilburg University uses a neutral remuneration system based on relevant work experience.
- This is a vacancy for a position in accordance with article 2.3 paragraph 1 CLA DU. You will have a temporary contract for the duration of 12 (internal) -18 (external) months. If in the opinion of the employer the employee performs well, there is continuation in the same position and equal financial and organisational circumstances, this contract will be succeeded by an employment contract for an indefinite period of time, after reaching the maximum temporary contract duration according to the CLA.
- Vacation pay of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3%.
