A new Institutional Strategy is underpinned by six key enablers, all of which require good data management and reporting (operational and strategic).Student Operations is responsible for the student record – its management and quality – as well as the principal functions supporting the student lifecycle (e.g. exams, timetabling, curriculum information). The directorate is also responsible for student statutory reporting to external stakeholders (e.g. HESA, OfS, GMC).About the roleWe are seeking to appoint a Data Analyst to join our Student Data Quality team to support the demands on data analysis and reporting.As a Data Analyst, you will need to work closely with colleagues in Student and Registry Services (SRS), across faculties and other Professional Services, especially the Information Services Division (ISD), to respond to requests and identify issues. You will collate, analyse and report on data to propose solutions for effective decision making. You will develop and work with colleagues in Planning and ISD to perform data quality checks and release reports, largely in PowerBI. The specialist skills you will bring to the role relate to:

  • Data management – You comprehend data governance and how it works in relation to other organisational governance structures. You can participate in or deliver the assurance of a service because you have a breadth of knowledge and experience relating to data management.
  • Data analysis and data visualisation – You can use the most appropriate medium to visualise data to tell compelling stories that meet stakeholder concerns and are relevant to business goals and can be acted upon.
  • Creative and logical thinking – You can identify and trace the root cause of issues as they are presented in data collection processes and downstream services as they occur. You can recommend actions and identify trends to resolve issues.

The objective is to provide much needed support for Student Operations to deliver good quality reporting and data analysis to our stakeholders on a range of issues, especially in relation to student enrolment forecasting, space utilisation, exception reporting, timetabling, access and participation, and curriculum operations and reviews. In addition, the role provides key support for the preparation of UCL’s student statutory returns and for admissions, access and participation data quality activities.

If you have any queries about the role, please contact Lina Iordanaki (Head of Student Data Quality) at:About youThe successful applicant will have significant experience contributing complicated data analysis using standard tools such as SQL and another programming language across multiple datasets (e.g. space, finance, HR, student, CRM) in an education setting; this will be combined with experience in data mapping e.g. Data Factory, presenting data, and creating reports in PowerBI, in which your knowledge and skills will be at an advanced level.The postholder will be self-motivated, have clear verbal and written communication skills and the ability to maintain collaborative working relationships across the wider institution. They will also have excellent planning, organisational and decision-making skills, with the ability to coordinate a range of simultaneous tasks or activities, exercise initiative and problem-solve effectively.
