The CORNERSTONE team at the University of Southampton has a shared vision: to bring the future closer by turning research ideas into reality. We are seeking an Enterprise Fellow who is passionate about supporting cutting-edge research in a growing team of enthusiastic colleagues. You will join a group that has a culture centred around the team and is very supportive of one-another. You will be self-motivated, a strong communicator, flexible, able to work both individually and as part of a team, able to manage time efficiently and able to work with external partners.

You will have the opportunity to thrive in a University environment, working at the cutting edge of future technologies. You will be able to develop your career within a University culture focused on people, collegiality, quality, internationalisation and sustainability. Your working hours will be somewhat flexible, with the option to partly work from home.

The CORNERSTONE team provide a Silicon Photonics fabrication service to researchers from across the globe, centred around unique cleanroom capabilities in Southampton (www.cornerstone.sotonfab.co.uk ). You will become the CORNERSTONE Process Design Kit (PDK) Engineer who will be responsible for maintaining and developing a library of Silicon Photonics components for a variety of platforms that our users can freely access via the world’s only open source component library. This will be focused on developing graphene and 2D material-based devices integrated with the silicon-on-insulator platform within the Layered Materials Research Foundry (LMRF) project in collaboration with the University of Cambridge.

You will design and characterise test structures to confirm the performance of each batch of fabricated Silicon Photonics devices and will also work closely with our software partners and our users to provide feedback on the validity of submitted design files. You will be able to learn from some of the best researchers in the field and will gain valuable, transferable skills within the field of photonics device design and characterisation. You will be provided with full training.

Experience in Silicon Photonics device design, mask layout and device characterisation is essential, as is a PhD in photonics or a related area.
