Do you have financial acumen, great project management skills and a desire to address the climate and nature emergencies?Would you like to utilise your excellent organisational and problem solving skills to support peatland restoration? Would you like to work on a collaborative and practical project across northern England and in partnership with European collaborators?

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Great North Bog Development Coordinator (focus on Green Finance) to join us to work on an exciting EU funded project – WaterLANDS – which focusses on wetland restoration. You would be expected to embed yourself within the six peatland restoration partnerships operating across northern England who form the ‘Great North Bog’ (GNB) consortium and are seeking to sustainably finance their restoration projects. You would be expected to have experience or expertise in green finance and have a familiarity with carbon markets. The successful candidate should have excellent communication skills and be able to manage collaborative working with the University of Leeds WaterLANDS team, the European project partners and the local peatland practitioners and partnerships in northern England.

There is growing interest in green finance, understood as the participation of private entities into the financing of environmental conservation and restoration activities. Environmental and conservation practitioners (e.g. environmental charities, government agencies), are increasingly being exposed to interactions with private actors with an interest in investing nature finance. This requires them to engage with topics, terminology and discussions outside their main area of expertise and for which they do not always have relevant training or skills. A clear need has been identified for professionals to operate at the interface between those private entities wishing to invest in environmental conservation and restoration and those responsible for such conservation/restoration, enabling discussions, helping translate knowledge across the finance and conservation world and supporting positive interactions. You would fulfil this need in support of the Great North Bog as part of the EU WaterLANDS project.

The work will involve traveling around Northern England to meet with partners and the occasional travel to project meetings in other European countries. While the appointment is at the University of Leeds, office space at the GNB partnership will also be available.
