About the job Head of ChemistryJob OverviewA leading biophysics company is seeking a leader for its chemistry department, focusing on drug discovery projects. This role involves guiding a team, developing strategies for small molecule projects, and collaborating across disciplines in a dynamic start-up environment.Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the chemistry team, driving strategy for small molecule drug discovery.
  • Collaborate with biology and other scientific leaders to ensure program success.
  • Provide project leadership, ensuring milestones are met across R&D.
  • Support external presentations and align with the executive team on corporate goals.
  • Manage CRO relationships and contribute to IP strategy for small molecule filings.

Requirements

  • PhD in synthetic, medicinal, or computational chemistry.
  • 10+ years of industry experience with a proven leadership track record.
  • Expertise in drug discovery, small molecule development, cancer biology, and protein modeling.
  • Strong understanding of biophysical techniques and drug development processes.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • Experience setting up a chemistry department, developing, and executing strategy.
  • Experience taking drug candidates from early discovery, through to Clinic.
  • Previous leadership experience including, building, recruiting, and onboarding a team of Chemists.
