Cardiff UniversityApplications are invited for a full-time (35 hours per week) Research Assistant position based at the School of Dentistry, Cardiff University, Heath Park Campus.Funded by a UKRI Harmonised Impact Accelerator Award, this project will evaluate the anti-atherosclerotic activity of a natural polymer developed in Cardiff to accelerate the research along the impact pathway. The research is part of a multi-disciplinary collaboration led by Prof Elaine Ferguson (School of Dentistry), Prof Dipak Ramji (School of Biosciences) and Dr Faizan Sadiq (School of Dentistry) at Cardiff University. The successful candidate will be based in the School of Dentistry but may conduct parts of the project in the School of Biosciences.We are looking for a full-time Research Assistant (with knowledge of research methods and techniques within cardiovascular science, including in vitro assays of cell viability, reactive oxygen species production and monocyte migration). Experience in these areas will be an advantage, but full training will be provided as necessary. To conduct research on a project within Cardiff University’s College of Biomedical and Life Sciences evaluating the anti-atherosclerotic activity of a natural polymer developed in Cardiff. To be an active member of the research team assisting in the delivery of other research activity associated with our group, such as carrying out supporting work that helps lead to the publishing of research in high-quality journals and to pursue excellence in research and inspire others to do the same.Main Duties and Responsibilities
- To undertake research, e.g. by planning, preparing, setting up, conducting and recording the outcome of experiments. This post will focus on biological testing of a natural polymer to accelerate the research along the impact pathway. Experience in these areas will be an advantage, but full training will be provided as necessary
- Actively participate within the Advanced Therapies research group, communicating and presenting research at meetings, ensuring information is communicated to internal and external partners
- To contribute and support research publications and presentations, as required
- To contribute and support research funding bids, as required
- To analyse and communicate complex ideas, concepts and data using appropriate methods and packages
- To resolve issues and support colleagues in devising procedures required to ensure accurate and timely reporting
- To assist in managing stocks of reagents and consumables
- To generate research output and contribute to the development of independent and original ideas, as appropriate
- To provide support in research activities and provide guidance to other members of staff within the research team
- To maintain and update area of specialist knowledge, researching and critically appraising relevant literature within the area.
