The Role
The role of the research associate is to contribute to the successful delivery of a NIHR-funded HS&DR research Project: NIHR131356 – Implementation of the non-medical practitioner workforce into the urgent and emergency care system skill-mix in England: a mixed methods study of configurations and impact. This mixed methods study started in March 2021, and is led by an experienced, interdisciplinary research team from other Universities and NHS organisations.
The post holder will be responsible for the collection and analysis of both quantitative and qualitative study data, with a focus on qualitative data. You will be supported by the research team and will contribute to presentation of results and findings. You would carry out a range of research activities – qualitative interviews, quantitative data collection and observation of practice in NHS Emergency Departments; contribute to the analysis of the qualitative data; be a point of contact at study sites for the participant organisations and individuals; work with the study’s clinician, service user and project oversight bodies and disseminate study findings, orally and in writing, with the research team. Travel to NHS hospital sites in England for data collection may be required.
The Person
The person will have a higher degree in a relevant area; have experience of undertaking health service or clinical research in the NHS. You will have a good understanding of research ethics and governance and following their guidelines in data collection and storage. You will have experience in identifying and escalating problems that may jeopardise the study. The person will have excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills; be proficient in standard Office as well as qualitative analysis software; have the knowledge to manage and analyse qualitative data and present findings; be able to review and synthesise literature; and will work both independently and with the core study research team and the study’s professional and public stakeholders. A willingness to travel to research sites across England, with some potential for overnight stays, is necessary.

This is a part time (18.50 hours per week), fixed term position available for 4.5 months, starting as soon as possible, with a starting salary of £16,135.50 per annum (50% pro rata to £32,271per annum).
