About the role:The Department of Chemistry is keen to build on its track record of success with major cross-departmental research initiatives led and supported by the Research Development Manager. Research Support within the College operates in a team-based collegiate environment and the appointee will form a key member of the research support team in the Department of Chemistry.The aim of the post is to take the lead in identifying, help developing, organising, publicising and managing large scale research grant applications. This will normally include multi-group initiatives (including external academic and industrial partners) to a wide range of funding agencies. You will play a key role in enhancing and supporting the Department’s research portfolio and industry relationships.What you would be doing:You will be expected to acquire a broad understanding and knowledge of the Department’s research, including external collaborations, potential impact of the research and likely funding sources for it. You must have clear understanding of the full cycle of research funding, from application stage to dissemination of research outputs.What we are looking for:Candidates will be expected to demonstrate the following:
- Educated to PhD level in Chemistry or a related field of the sciences, or an equivalent level of professional qualifications and/or experience
- Experience in preparing research funding applications including costings
- Experience of working in a higher education/research institution, funding agency or in industry
- Excellent understanding of the national and international research funding landscape including UK government funding agencies, charities, industry and international organisations
- In-depth knowledge of the TRAC methodology
- Excellent data analysis skills including relevant software knowledge such as Excel and Power BI
- Excellent understanding of the full cycle of research funding from application stage to dissemination of research outputs
- Experience in organising major networking and academic events
- Ability to produce clear and concise written materials
- Highly confident and articulate with outstanding communication and persuasive skills both verbally and in writing.
