About usWe are seeking a collaborative and self-motivated postdoctoral research fellow to work on an exciting cancer immunotherapy project funded by Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. The postholder will work on development and testing of advanced CAR T cell therapies for Diffuse Midline Glioma (DMG). DMG is devastating childhood brain tumour in urgent need of new treatment approaches. This research project combines translational data from current CAR T cell clinical studies in DMG at UCL/Great Ormond Street Hospital with advanced small animal models to develop next generation CAR T cell therapies for DMG with a view to transforming outcomes.The role is ideally suited for a creative individual with a strong interest in tumour immunology, cancer immunotherapy, and novel cellular therapy development including clinical translation in a leading academic setting.About the roleThe post holder will be based within a multi-disciplinary team of cancer biologists, wet-lab scientists and translational research clinicians concerned with both basic immunological principles and understanding the immune response through treatment. The post holder will be based within the largest CAR T cell program in Europe led by Martin Pule.The post holder will be supervised by Dr Karin Straathof and closely collaborate with the research groups of Dr Manav Pathania (Cambridge University), Dr Martin Pule and Prof Sergio Quezada (UCL Cancer Institute) and Prof Mark Lythgoe (UCL Centre of Advanced Biological Imaging). This project will build on a strong track record of significant discoveries in the field of tumour immunology at UCL Cancer Institute, and the candidate will benefit from expert training in an exciting and dynamic environment.The post is for 3 years in the first instance. The starting salary is contingent on the candidate’s previous experience.Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B, with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.Applications should include a CV and a Cover Letter: In the Cover Letter please evidence the essential and desirable criteria in the Person Specification part of the Job Description.
