Job Summary

We are looking for a preclinical imaging scientist (Associate Scientist, Scientist, Senior Scientist) to join Charles River Discovery Research Services (CR DRS) located in Kuopio, Finland. The position requires expertise and experience in multimodal in vivo imaging with an emphasis on MRI applications and nuclear imaging. Previous experience in conducting imaging studies in rodent models of central nervous system disorders or in oncology models is an advantage. The candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary preclinical research team and report to Group Leader, Advanced Technologies.

Roles and Responsibilities

•    The Scientist will have the role as a Study Director/Lead Scientist responsible for scientific leadership and study management in client-sponsored preclinical imaging studies in a global, cross-functional environment.
•    The Scientist will contribute to the development of new services and function as a scientific expert of the site and of the Charles River Discovery Services (CRL DS) business unit.
•    The Scientist will work together with the CRL commercial teams to support client communication and participate in the generation of scientific marketing material.
•    The Scientist is committed to continuous learning and professional development.
 

Qualifications

•    Master’s degree (M.Sc.) or equivalent degree in biological science, life science, biomedical physics, or related discipline. Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) is advantageous.
•    At least three years of experience with in vivo imaging and studies in small animals (therapy areas CNS or oncology) in a publicly traded company, in academia, or a in government-funded research agency. Experience from pharmaceutical or biotech industry in a scientific role is advantageous.
•    Knowledge and practical experience in structural MRI, MRS and functional neuroimaging and/or in nuclear imaging is required. Experience in conducting preclinical drug efficacy studies in CNS and/or oncology is advantageous. Demonstrated understanding of cancer biology is an asset.
•    Good understanding and practical experience in using common imaging data analysis platforms, processing pipelines, and tools are required. 

Skills and Competencies

•    Excellent planning, problem-solving and organizational skills. Ability to work flexibly across projects and adapt to new priorities in a fast-paced environment.
•    Collaborative team player comfortable working and communicating in a cross-functional and international environment. Track record in people and project management and ability to mentor and train staff will be an asset.
•    Excellent verbal and written skills in English, scientific writing skills, good presentation skills with ability to professionally communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
•    Right to design procedures and projects involving laboratory animals in Finland through a FELASA-accredited course is advantageous.
