An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced specialist Teacher of the Deaf QToD/Educational Audiologist or a Speech and Language Therapist in the University of Southampton Auditory Implant Service (USAIS). This is a full time role but applications will be welcomed for those interested in part time or job share roles.

USAIS provides a regional service for deaf adults and children in the southern region of the UK.  By joining our inclusive, multi-disciplinary team you will have a unique opportunity to further your career by utilising your clinical skills within a University setting allowing you to access up-to-date research in this field.  You will be responsible for the specialised assessment of hearing impaired adults and children for a range of auditory implants and devices and will manage a caseload of children and adults providing rehabilitation and support post fitting.  You will provide training, advice and support for local professionals regarding the optimal use of auditory implants.  You will be based at our clinic on the Highfield campus but will also see children and adults in their education or home setting.

You will be a qualified Teacher of the Deaf or Speech and Language Therapist with extensive post qualification experience across the age range.  Experience of working with children and young people with auditory implants and assistive listening devices would be advantageous, however, appropriate training will be offered.

Within the department there are excellent opportunities for specialised working and individual areas of research. You will have the opportunity to be involved with teaching on the MSc and BSc Audiology courses run by the University. Attendances at conferences and training courses is encouraged and supported for continuing professional development.  Further details of the role are available in the job description and person specification.

We offer a range of great benefits that includes a contributory pension scheme; holiday entitlement of 30 days (pro rata for part time staff) plus 8 bank holidays and 6 additional holidays (closure days); subsidised health and fitness facilities on-site; cycle to work scheme; a range of discounts which include restaurants, retail outlets and entertainment.

We are committed to building an inclusive and diverse culture at the University and creating an environment where people can balance successful careers with their commitments and interests outside of work.  Our flexible working practices, including a hybrid working model, where employees can split their working time between the office and home, support our belief that this balance brings long-lasting benefits for our institution as well as our people.
