MyWorld, at the University of Bristol, is looking for a talented Studio Manager to lead on technical and production operations in the brand-new Virtual Production Studio and Smart Cinema facilities on the University’s Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus.
The MyWorld programme is delivered by a consortium of 13 partners including world-leading universities and globally renowned brands in the UK’s West of England region. Led by University of Bristol and backed by a 5 year, £30m investment from the UK Research and Innovation Strength in Places Fund, MyWorld is catalysing sustainable growth in the region’s creative economy through investments in creative technology research and development, skills training, and development of new cutting-edge experimental production facilities.

- Lead the Operations: Take charge of the Virtual Production Studio and Smart Cinema, managing scheduling, resourcing, and delivery of cutting-edge productions, test shoots, and student projects.
- Manage Kit Hire Service: Oversee the kit hire service, providing access to the latest production equipment for internal and external partners and clients.
- Facilities Supervision: Direct the Virtual Production Studio, Smart Cinema, Edit Suites, and Galleries, ensuring they meet technical specifications for research, training, and industry productions.
- Team Leadership: Head the MyWorld technical team, ensuring a resilient and creative service aligned with industry standards in multi-camera broadcast, virtual production, and motion capture capabilities.
- Studio Production Expertise: You will have extensive experience in studio production manager roles within bustling studio settings, demonstrating adept management from the inception of TV or film concepts to the post-production phase.
- Knowledge and Advantage: With your background, you will bring valuable insights into cutting-edge production processes, particularly in areas like virtual production. An added advantage is your familiarity with associated VFX pipelines.
- Extensive Industry Networks: Drawing from your experience, you will possess robust creative industry connections spanning both the Bristol region and London.
- Adaptability and Innovation: While prior University experience isn’t mandatory, you will have an appreciation for the distinctive environment compared to commercial studios. Embrace the excitement of contributing to highly innovative projects with diverse requirements and technical challenges.
- Comfort with Uncertainty: Your ability to navigate uncertainty with ease and collaborate seamlessly with a broad spectrum of stakeholders will be a valuable asset.

The role will commence at 1 Cathedral Square, Trinity Street, Bristol, BS1 5DD and is anticipated to transition to its permanent base at The Sheds, 65-71 Avon Street, Bristol, BS2 0PZ expected in autumn 2024.
Please note this role is internally known as ‘Technical Manager (Studio Operations)’.
